The team of sports ground improvement specialists at Sports Stadia is diverse and unique with skills ranging from stadium and ground design to structural engineering and steel fabrication and installation. Some of the skills within our team are not however quite so typical of a sports stadium and facilities business! Our Operational Manager Eddie Roberts, founder of Cult-ore Art is also a well-known and hugely talented artist who creates beautiful metal artwork for venues and events across the world. His most recent commission involved designing a very special and emotive installation at a sporting venue in Yorkshire to create a lasting legacy in honour of a local cricketing hero.
Eddie was invited to work closely with York Cricket Club to create a corten steel sculpture for a memorial garden to honour the life of Dan Woods, a talented and inspirational cricketer who sadly died of cancer earlier this year at the age of 32. Eddie was honoured to design and create the sculpture and was determined to make sure that his piece was a true reflection of Dan and his life and love of cricket.
“I drew him and I drew him day after day”, Eddie said.
“It took a while but I think he’s there, I believe he’s there.”
Richard Searle, Commercial Director at HS Sports Stadia comments: “We are so proud of Eddie and our involvement in this wonderful tribute to a talented and inspiring individual and also that as a company delivering sports ground improvements, we are able to offer something so iconic and meaningful to the club. It’s not all large-scale stadium builds and upgrades, we can also support sporting clubs and venues to create something that will last the lifetime of the club, inspire its members and represent the things that make a team, its home and community so special.”
