Next in our series of ‘meet the team’ features we introduce David Warwick, our General Manager. David who joined our team in 2020, leads our Northern Ireland based operation and manages an experienced, growing and ambitious new team.
After many years in the industry, and with a proven track record of achieving significant growth throughout his career, David brings with him a wealth of experience covering both commercial and operational knowledge. He has a strong network across a wide range of sectors and has an unrivalled reputation in not only Northern Ireland, but across the UK.
Here we took 5 minutes to sit down with David for a quick chat and asked him about his role, what he brings to the team and what our customers can expect when they choose to work with Harrogate Steel.
How has your role evolved since you joined the Harrogate Steel team?
I was the first member of the Northern Ireland team and now, thanks to the projects we have in the pipeline we’ve just taken on our fifth team member. It feels like we’ve really established some roots here and our ever-growing order book, for structural steel and architectural metalwork projects is proof of that. And it’s not just the team in Northern Ireland that’s growing, we have colleagues working remotely across the UK on a whole range of projects, it’s a very exciting time to be part of the business.
As General Manager, what process do you go through when you secure a new project?
After winning a new project, we have an initial induction meeting to engage with the team where we discuss everything from our capacity and timings to the price and logistics. I think this is a really important part of the process to ensure that we’re all on the same page from the outset, and it helps us to predict any challenges that may arise as the job progresses. Communication is key to every project and working as an extension of the client and main contractor team is where we always aim to be.
What do you think you bring to the team?
With my commercial experience and operational knowledge, I have in the past, seen things done the wrong way so I know how to bring a best practise approach to ensure the success of the project. I’ve always been very confident in my decision making (I don’t think in our industry there can be any grey areas!), so reaching solutions confidently, quickly, and accurately is something I bring to every job.
Why do you think customers choose to work with Harrogate Steel?
With Harrogate Steel there’s a no hassle and no problem approach, nothing is too much trouble, and the team will always go above and beyond to deliver for the client. The senior team is ambitious and forward thinking and whilst the past 12 months has had its challenges, we are stronger than ever as a team, and we are delivering some great work across the board with exciting projects in the pipeline. Clients really seem to value the fact that we do everything under one roof from design through to fabrication and installation, whether it’s a large steel structure or a detailed architectural metalwork brief, we have the expertise to deliver it all.
